Compare & Contrast
a study
Thing A:
...If I might insert a personal opinion, I think Petraeus’ plan has a serious chance of working despite heavy odds. In fact, within my first three days with 1-4, talking with Iraqi families and police, there were strong indicators that for this little neighborhood, local people and Iraqi police are definitely encouraged. ...
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in coming days will visit Syria, a country President George W. Bush has shunned as a state sponsor of terrorism, despite being asked by the administration not to go.
..."This is a country that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Saniora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders,” said White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino.
..."We do not encourage and, in fact, we discourage members of Congress to make such visits to Syria,” said White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino. “This is a country that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Siniora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow through its borders to Iraq.
“I don’t know what she is trying to accomplish, and I don’t know if anyone in the administration has spoken to her about it,” Perino said. “In general, we do discourage such trips.”
...Other lawmakers on the trip include Reps. Henry Waxman and Tom Lantos - both California Democrats - as well as Reps. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., David Hobson, R-Ohio, and Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y. Lantos is a Holocaust survivor.
Thing C:
...Rep. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress, arrived in Israel Friday as part of what his office called a “goodwill mission” to the Middle East....Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic civil rights group, said that Ellison will be a “symbol of America’s religious diversity” to leaders of the region.
“We hope that in the Palestinian-Israeli issue, he is able to meet with leaders on both sides, and to offer his perspective on the overall conflict and the need for a just resolution,” Hooper said.

"...a *new* Congress in town."
third [3rd] in line for the Presidency of the U.S.of A.
A resolution has been proposed in the House of Representatives that condemns Iran for the seizure of British sailors and marines, expresses support for our British allies. It’s hard to see anything controversial in that. But apparently, the resolution has languished all week while Pelosi refuses to allow it to come to the floor.

So we’re driving down in the industrial area of town, looking for the shipping container store… [yep—biiig barn-cleanings in the plans for this Spring. new shop vs 3 generations of accumulated stuff. yikes!][and yes, it’s “stuff” **not** “junk” dammit!]
At any rate, I spot one of those Sally Struthers-like billboards of the large-eyed, pathetic, vaguely racial toddler girl, expecting the usual “Starving Children’s Fund” plea but what do I get?

Yikes! That feller’s waaaay too lefty.
SAN FRANCISCO With few [*cough*zero*cough*would-be challenegers surfacing to face San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in this fall’s election, left-wing bloggers are abuzz about the notion of having actor Danny Glover mount a mayoral bid
San Francisco silently moaned, “I’m gettin’ too old for this shit.”

The stone compound that embraces the cathedral, with courtyards and fragrant orange trees, abuts Cordoba’s old Jewish Quarter, testament to a community that flourished and lived in relative peace under the Muslim caliphate.
Thanks for playing!
here’s your lovely parting gift
[New Mexico’s Democratic Governor Bill Richardson] ...took $50,000 from Soros and one of his pro-marijuana front groups and successfully pressured the New Mexico state legislature into passing a fraudulent “medical marijuana” bill that offers false hope to sick people.

how then is NOW?!?
HillaryBelle-ushka received the endorsement of the National Organization for Women; which means, I guess, that they’re still around…
Asked if she viewed herself as a feminist, Clinton said by the standard definition, yes.
“If you look in the dictionary, the word feminist means someone who believes in equal rights for women in society, in the economy, the political process - generally believes in the equality of women. And I certainly believe in the equality of women,”...
Not to be outdone in the “Voices From the past” category, Billie Jean King announced her endorsement of Hillary Clinton today.
They join the more this century EMILY’s List, the women’s wimyn’s organization with a philosophy quite similar to Hillary-Bell-ushka’s: “Early Money Is Like Yeast.” I mean, I see what they’re getting at, but it seems like a somewhat ...um, indelicate way to put it.
[EMILY’s List founder Ellen Malcolm, also president of Americans Coming Together works with Harold Ickes [Media Fund] and gets big bux from Soros and Open Society Institute.]
Best Hillary-Bell-ushka expose I’ve yet found, though there is some philosophical rambling to wade thru. Links along the side-bar to a multitude of up-to-date articles on HRC, too.

oops-yyyyyyyy.........
what will come of this?
Not so clear, considering the only places I see this story is lefty SanFranValues rags…
From “The Bohemian:” Sen. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of two major defense contractors who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein.
From “Metro-Active:” The MILCON subcommittee is not only in charge of supervising military construction, it also oversees “quality of life” issues for veterans, which includes building housing for military families and operating hospitals and clinics for wounded soldiers. Perhaps Feinstein is trying to disassociate herself from MILCON’s incredible failure to provide decent medical care for wounded soldiers. [*cough*WR*cough*]
Two years ago, before the Washington Post became belatedly involved, the online magazine Salon.com exposed the horrors of deficient medical care for Iraq war veterans. While leading MILCON, Feinstein had ample warning of the medical-care meltdown. But she was not proactive on veteran’s affairs.
More details here.

All children could face compulsory checks to discover if they are at risk of turning into criminals, the Prime Minister [Blair] announced today.
...Establish universal checks throughout a child’s development to help service providers to identify those most at risk of offending.
Well, I’m offended, now.
Ya want more?
further expansion of the DNA database when it suggested including “all suspected offenders who come into contact with the police”.
Currently anyone arrested for a recordable offence in England and Wales must give a DNA sample - which remains on record even if they are not charged, or are acquitted.

AlFranken wrote about these guys
...Al-Sharq al-Awsat, a Saudi-owned newspaper based in London, quoted an Iranian military source as saying that the aim was to trade the Royal Marines and sailors for [five Revolutionary Guards captured in Iraq earlier this year [and still held by the US] ]
...a senior Iranian general alleged that the Britons had confessed under interrogation to “aggression into Iran’s waters”. ...[and] may be charged with spying. [a capitol crime in Iran]
...Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, ... warned last week that Tehran would take “illegal actions” if necessary to maintain its right to develop a nuclear programme.
...[Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards] is known to be furious about the recent defections to the West of three senior Guards officers, including a general, and the effect of UN sanctions on his own finances. [emph mine]
They sure are acting like Arabs…

MORE:
Allah has more info and a statement from the executive officer of the “USS Underwood, the frigate working in the British-controlled task force with HMS Cornwall - said: “The unique US Navy rules of engagement say we not only have a right to self-defence but also an obligation to self-defence. They [the British] had every right in my mind and every justification to defend themselves rather than allow themselves to be taken. Our reaction was, ‘Why didn’t your guys defend themselves?’”
What a lousy feeling that must’ve been for those Brits....
